Artist statement

Example 1

As an artist, I am interested in how material modification can change our perception of objects. My sculptures engage with the function and symbolism of domestic, everyday and found objects. My background is grounded in formal design principles and a deep commitment to craft. I rework familiar forms through conceptual and physical processes that reframe the purpose and significance of how objects are defined by themselves and their surroundings.

Example 2

As an artist, I investigate how altering materials shifts our perception of objects. My sculptures engage the function and symbolism of domestic, everyday, and found forms. Grounded in formal design principles and a commitment to craft, I rework familiar objects through conceptual and physical processes that reframe their use and meaning, revealing how context shapes what an object is, and what it can become.

7’x7’x7’ Found objects, plastic, wood, paint

description:

BFA Thesis installation. This work explores the act of eating dinner as a theater of identity formation. It sets the stage for a ritual - a daily liturgy that both comforts and constrains. This is an inherited ritual. I sat at the table because my parents did, and theirs before them. In this way, the work is filtered through memory, not just personal recollection, but of embodied memory.
